Copperplate was a 5.5 length winner in the 6th race at Turfway Park on Saturday afternoon. Abel Lezcano took full advantage of the post and placed Copperplate outside and just off the leaders going down the back stretch. He made his move in the turn and took over the lead by the half-mile pole setting a solid pace in 0:44.47. Coming into the lane he had widened his lead to 4 lengths and simply widened his lead down the stretch. Post time favorite, Saint Prado, rallied from next to last to get up for second, but was no match, despite the extra half-furlong. Copperplate’s final time of 1:15.75 was just 0.4 seconds off the 11-year old track record.
