Pocket Aces Racing LLC is excited to announce we plan to attend the Fasig-Tipton 2YO in Training Sale at Timonium May 21 – 22. We have 4 exceptional 2YO racing prospects in the stable and feel like this sale offers us a tremendous opportunity to add another to the mix. The Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Sale has been very productive with EIGHT graded stakes winners out of the sale so far in 2018. Recent top performers include multiple graded stakes winners Maraud (American Turf, Palm Beach), Army Mule (Carter Handicap), Bowie’s Hero (Mathis Brothers Mile, Frank Kilroe Mile), Discreet Lover (Excelsior), Fourstar Crook (James Penny Memorial, Hillsborough), Lady Ivanka (Spinaway), One Go All Go (Commonwealth Derby, Dixiana Elkhorn) and Skyler’s Scramjet (Tom Fool Handicap).
As a 2YO sale is significantly different than a yearling sale with each horse going through a “Breeze Show” prior to being made available for physical inspection by buyers. The breeze show consists of the horses breezing from 1 to 3 furlongs. Buyers have a chance to see their action on the track in addition to their speed over a short distance. It also allows firms such as Data Track International (biodatatrack.com) to perform an analysis on the stride length of each horse going through the show. Data Track’s analysis and grading system has been a tremendous predictor of success on the track. We will be utilizing Data Track’s services at this sale to help us in the selection process. Between Data Track and Marc’s discerning eye, we feel like we are in great shape to zero in on the top prospects in the sale.
While we are not particularly targeting a horse to qualify for a specific state bred program, there are a number of New York, Maryland and Pennsylvania bred horses in the sale. While pedigree remains important in the selection process, at a 2YO sale, we are sometimes more forgiving of the page when all other boxes are checked.
We have budged $125,000 for the purchase. We estimate shares to be priced as follow:
1 share (9.9% ownership) – $16,000
1/2 share (4.95% ownership) – $8,250
1/4 share (2.475% ownership) – $4,250
1/8 share (1.2375% ownership) – $2,250
