Nineteenth Street is now stakes placed with her runner up finish in the Goldfinch Stakes at Prairie Meadows this afternoon.
She got out of the gate well and was in the perfect stalking trip that had served her so well the last couple of races. However, Vertical Oak was able to get an easy lead and set some very soft fractions up front. When they kicked for home, she had a ton left in the tank and pulled away to an easy 7-length win as she skipped over the sloppy track. It looked as if a couple fillies might challenge Nineteenth Street at the top of the stretch, but Birzer said when they got close and he asked her for more, she dug in and finished strong…7 lengths ahead of the show horse.
