Pocket Aces Racing Adds Ohio Bred Filly

When Pocket Aces Racing’s 3-year-old Ohio bred filly Impeccable recently broke her maiden, in only her 2<![CDATA[nd career start, by nearly 5 lengths she established herself as a potential top-class filly on the Ohio bred circuit. With that kind of momentum in our favor Pocket Aces Racing felt strongly that the 2015 Keeneland September Yearling sale would afford us an excellent opportunity to acquire another Ohio bred. The horse we chose was an Ohio bred filly by the Grade 1 winning son of Tiznow, Gemologist, out of a young stakes winning daughter of Indian Charlie named Conjuress.

Physically, this filly is one of the best specimen’s we have seen since becoming active in the Ohio bred program several years ago. We believe her most striking attribute is her strength. She has an exceptionally strong hind quarters and gaskin with plenty of muscle in her forearms and shoulder. Her angles are great for speed as well. She has a long flat hip and almost ideal shape to her shoulder. The entire package works well together as she has a very loose and athletic walk. When he was alive her maternal grandfather, Indian Charlie, was known to be a tremendous influence for early speed (he finished as the 2<![CDATA[nd leading sire of 2-year-olds in North America twice in his stud career) and she reminds us a great deal of the body types he used to sire.

We are also excited to have a filly that is a part of Gemologist’s first crop of runners. During his racing career Gemologist broke his maiden in September of his 2-year-old season going 6 furlongs and highlighted his career with victories in the Kentucky Jockey Club S.-G 2 at a mile and a sixteenth and the Wood Memorial S.-G 1 at a mile and an eighth. It is important to note the distances on those victories as we believe one of the most important criteria in evaluating a young stallion’s potential is their ability to display speed as a young horse and carry that speed over a route of ground, in graded stakes company, at three and up. As for the filly’s female family it has to be the most active of any racing prospect we have purchased in our eleven year history. The mare herself was an Ohio bred stakes winner capturing the Scarlet and Grey H. as a 3-year-old but her current claim to fame is just how well her produce has been performing on the track. When the catalogues were produced back in mid-July Conjuress was the dam of three foals of racing age, one of which was a winner. In the two months since then Conjuress is now the dam of three foals of racing and all three are winners. On September 17<![CDATA[th the 2-year-old Ohio bred filly out of the mare broke her maiden (MSW) in her first career start. On July 18<![CDATA[th the 3-year-old Ohio bred filly out of the mare broke her maiden (MSW) in her first career start and followed that up on August 29<![CDATA[th with a rousing 6<![CDATA[th length victory in an allowance race. In addition, the 4-year-old Ohio bred gelding out of Conjuress raced several times in August and September and won two more races. So, in the time that the Keeneland September catalogues were written in mid-July until the actual sale in early September the three horses of racing age out of Conjuress combined for an incredible record of 5 wins from 6 starts – that is as active as a family gets!!!

Just like Impeccable and her siblings we believe this filly has the potential to be something pretty special in the Ohio bred ranks and would love to have you participating in her career with us.
