Pocket Aces Racing Adds Tapizar Colt

Cowboy Diplomacy

Pocket Aces Racing LLC is very excited to announce the addition of a new yearling colt by Tapizar out of Drumette, by Henny Huges. He was a $175,000 purchase from the Fasig-Tipton October Kentucky Sale.

Tapizar is Tapit’s only Breeder’s Cup winner standing at stud in North America. He was a winner at ages 2, 3 and 4 with earnings of $972,632. He won three graded stakes races including the Breeder’s Cup Dirt Mile. With relatively small crops, he was the #4 First Crop Sire in 2016 and is the #11 Second Crop Sire this year. His early runners have shown versatility winning sprints, routes, dirt, turf and synthetic races. He has a pair of stakes winners already with two entered in stakes races this weekend.

Drumette was a winning daughter of Henny Hughes. She is the dam of three other winners including a 2YO full sister of our colt. Monomoy Girl was a 3 1/4 length winner despite a 6-wide trip in her debut at Indiana Grand. She followed that up three weeks later with a wire-to-wire victory in an allowance/optional at Churchill Downs. She then won the Rags To Riches Stakes at Churchill Downs in dominating fashion on the opening day of the fall meet. We are very pleased that our colt is the spitting image of his very special older sister.

From the moment we saw this colt on the sales grounds, we knew it was the one we wanted. We passed on several other horses we really liked to be sure we were in position to make this purchase. We went well over budget to secure him, but we feel like it was well worth the extra money. He is exceptionally well balanced and has a very athletic and agile walk.

Equine Analysis Systems reached out to us following the purchase to let us know they had evaluated the colt prior to the sale and he had received extremely high marks. Their analysis includes a heart scan FotoSelect conformation analysis and concluded that he is indeed a special young horse with high potential for success. Their heart scan indicates a high probability for Graded Stakes success, specifically in the 3YO Classic Races. The conformation analysis also indicates high probability of Graded Stakes success. While spring 2019 is a long way off and there are plenty of things that could go wrong between now and then, we feel like their data reinforces our belief that this colt has an extremely good chance of being a high level 3-year old race horse.
