Pocket Aces Racing LLC is excited to introduce our new yearling colt by Laoban out of May Who, by Lionheart. He was purchased for $30,000 at the OBS Yearling Sale in October. This New York sired colt is eligible for the extremely lucrative New York restricted races as well as the New York Sire bonus program.
We went to the OBS Sale looking to add a Florida-bred prospect to our stable. However, after seeing this colt, we called an audible and decided to take a run at him. We feel very fortunate to have gotten him for just $30,000 and we couldn’t be happier that we decided to change up our plans.
The colt is very correct. He has all the characteristics we look for in a young horse: good size, plenty of scope, strength and athleticism. If we held a clinic on what to look for in a yearling’s walk, it would be everything you see in this colt. We haven’t seen a walk like this in a long time. We hope that will translate into equally impressive movement on the track.
Laoban is a very well-bred son of champion and super sire, Uncle Mo. He is an A+ nick, bred similarly to Kentucky Derby winner, Nyquist. Laoban hails from the same female line which produced multiple Grade I winner, I’m a Chatterbox and several other black-type runners. Laoban won the Jim Dandy Stakes, beating Belmont Stakes winner Creator and multiple stakes winners such as Mohaymen, Destin and Governor Malibu. He was also multiple graded stakes placed.
May Who was a three-time winner. She is the full sister to stakes winner Mayhaw and half-sister to stakes winners Dr. Margaret and Hanover Street. Dr. Margaret is the producer of multiple black-type winners and black-typed place runners, including Dr. Disco, now standing at stud in Florida.
A full share (10%) is just $5,000 and covers expenses through December 2019. Partial shares are also available and start at just $800 (1.25%) ownership. Expenses are billed quarterly at a MAXIMUM of just $1,300 per FULL share. Once the colt starts running earning purses, those quarterly expense bills may be reduced or eliminated entirely.
