Seeking an Empire made his third start on Saturday afternoon at the Fair Grounds and came within a head bob of breaking through with his first win. Breaking from the 1-hole with Miguel Mena aboard, Seeking an Empire settled in on the rail in fifth position. Cruzado set the moderate early fractions of 24.02 and 48.38. Eventual winner Wings of Fortune sat less than a length off of him until he took the lead at the 3/4 pole (1:14.60). Seeking an Empire was still in fourth place some five lengths back when they hit the stretch. Despite the slow fractions, he made up ground with a furious charge and came within a head bob of the win.
