Pocket Ace’s Racing is very happy to introduce our second purchase out of the Keeneland September Sale, a colt by Up to the Mark out of Shesakitty by Tapit. We purchased him out of the seventh session for $75,000.
Up to the Mark is an exciting young sire by the incredible Not This Time. His first crop are now yearlings. Up to the Mark was a Champion Turf Male and winner three consecutive Grade I races, the Old Forester Turf Classic at Churchill Downs, the Manhattan Stakes at Belmont Park and the Coolmore Turf Mile at Keeneland. He posted a record of 6-1-2 with earnings of $2,511,050 from twelve starts. He foals have been extremely popular through the sales ring averaging more than $200,000.
Shesakitty was graded stakes placed (3rd in the Debutante at Churchill Downs). She is the dam of multiple winners including Abyssinian, a multiple stakes placed winner of more than $155,000. Her 2YO filly, Doozie Do, debuted at Kentucky Downs earlier in September. Shesakitty is out of the graded stakes placed Call the Kitty. Tapit is a perennial top-ten broodmare sire. In 2026 his mares have produced 319 winners and 20 stakes winners with earnings of more than $23 million. His mares have produced 139 stakes winners lifetime.
The colt has good size, stands over plenty of ground and is powerfully built. He is correct through his knees and ankles and tracks a straight line through all 4 limbs. His shoulder, shape of his hind legs and feet all suggest turf, which isn’t a big surprise considering his sire was champion turf male just 3 years ago. His most impressive physical attribute is his huge hip. We have always seen the hip as being equivalent to a horse’s “engine” and his should supply tons of “horsepower”. We also liked his short cannons, which should aid him in having a quick turn of foot; a key attribute for turf horses. He is an exceptionally good mover that covers loads of ground through his hind limbs and carries himself with athleticism through his forelimbs.
