Copperplate was the winner of the 8th race at Turfway Park earlier tonight. He broke a step slow and got knocked around a bit right out of the gate and found himself trailing the field in the first 50 yards or so. He trailed the leaders by 4-5 lengths down the back stretch. He made a furious move through the turn and had caught the leader and favorite, Black Tavish, at the top of the stretch. They dueled down the lane before Copperplate pulled away at the end to win by about a length.
Copperplate paid $8.40, $2.40 and $2,20. He improved his record to 5-6-0 from 28 starts with earnings of $149,963.
