Filly by McKinzie is Third Keeneland Purchase

Our second horse out of the Tuesday session and third overall out of the 2023 September Keeneland Sale was Hip 2605, a filly by McKinzie out of Magic Spell by Majesticperfection purchased for $37,000.

This filly caught our attention (Marc, Kevin and Jared all noticed her at about the same time) in the back ring with her big, athletic walk. She has a big, deep girth…plenty of room for a big heart for sure. She stands over a ton of ground and it shows in her stride. She should gobble up the ground on the track.  The filly has speed on the bottom of her pedigree, but she has the physique of a two-turn horse. That’s a combination we love.  She handled herself extremely well through all the commotion in the back ring which is an early indication of a good mind.

McKinzie, a son of Street Sense, won graded stakes races at ages two, three, four and five. He won from seven furlongs up to 9 furlongs and captured four Grade I races including the Cash Call Futurity, The Mailbu, The Pennsylvania Derby and the Whitney.  He earned $3,473,360 with a record of 8-6-0 from eighteen starts. His first foals are yearlings.

Magic Spell is a graded stakes placed daughter of Majesticperfection. She earned $166,730 over the course of her career. She’s the half-sibling of a pair of six-figure earners. This filly is her first foal.

She is at Silver Springs Training in Lexington. We expect her to be based in Kentucky when she’s ready for the track.
